Solarcentury expands into Greece

Acquisition of 284MW of solar projects ready to build in 2022. Projects to contribute to Greece’s plans to reach full decarbonisation by 2028.

Solarcentury, the global integrated solar power company, has expanded into the Greek solar market with the acquisition of 284MW of projects in development.

The solar projects, which are planned for the central region of Thessaly, received fast-track status from the Greek Interministerial Committee in December 2019. The fast-track procedure accelerates the permitting process and should result in the projects being ready to build as early as 2022.

Solarcentury CEO, Frans van den Heuvel said: “We are delighted to be entering the market in Greece where there is a strong demand for locally-produced energy and efficient solar resource. As well as producing clean, renewable power, the projects will also create significant local employment during construction and provide ongoing financial benefit to the local communities.”

Costas Caralis, General Manager of Greece for Solarcentury added: “These projects will contribute to the governmental plans for faster penetration of renewable energy in the Greek energy mix, which aims to achieve full decarbonisation by 2028. Greece is looking extremely positive for solar and Solarcentury has recruited a team of four to develop a really promising pipeline with plans to expand further over the next 12 months.”
