It’s a green light for two solar farms in Ede, the Netherlands
The Mayor and regional officials have given the go ahead for 3 large solar farms in the region of Ede, the Netherlands. These solar farms together cover 22 hectares and are spread over various locations. Solarcentury has been awarded two of the three projects: Blaakweg and Lange Rijnsteeg covering an area of 7.7 and 11.1 hectares. Solarcentury is working with local residents in the process of designing the solar farms and making sure that the projects are well-positioned within the landscape.
Pieter Biewenga and Martijn van der Veen, both business development managers for Solarcentury: “Solarcentury is delighted to contribute to the sustainability goals within the Ede region. The projects will be designed with biodiversity in mind and will offer space for nature. Interested parties can invest in the locally generated clean power from these solar farms.”
The council aims to give the local residents either 50% ownership of the solar farms or offer them a share of half of the revenue. Councillor Lex Hoefsloot said: “We value local ownership. Not only concerning the project, but also – in the long term – concerning the land itself. ”
Future hopes for the region of Ede
By developing the projects, the council will be doing their bit to meet the sustainability target of being energy neutral by 2050.
