Solarcentury named as UK’s fastest growing private renewable energy company
The Sunday Times Tech Track 100 ranks Britain’s private technology, media and telecoms companies with the fastest-growing sales over the last three years of available accounts. Run by CEO Derry Newman and founded in 1999 by Chairman Jeremy Leggett, Solarcentury grew revenue by an average 37% p.a from 2008 to 2011, rising from £19m in 2008 to £50m in 2011. Sales in continental Europe accounted for 50% of Solarcentury’s revenue in 2010.
Solarcentury recently received the Queens Award for Enterprise for innovation. The company designs and manufactures its solar products for residential and commercial buildings and supplies them to hundreds of solar installers across the UK, France and Italy. Solarcentury has also managed the installation of well over 9,000 solar projects, including many for Housing Associations; national and local house builders; the Eden Project; the UK Environment Agency; Europe’s largest vertical solar facade on the CIS Tower Manchester; over 280 schools in the UK and 28 secondary schools for the Province of Milan, Italy.
Derry Newman, CEO, Solarcentury said: “Solarcentury is driving forward the change to renewable and clean solar energy by leading the way in building integrated solar products and large solar energy installations. Our project and product sales success means we can progress in product design and manufacture to meet these goals. Our design team now uses innovation and manufacturing techniques more familiar in the automotive and high tech consumer electronics industries; this makes our products very simple and fast to install, our solar electric tiles and slates now being used by installers just like any other roofing product. We believe we have now developed more solar products which replace building materials than anyone else. That gives building owners more choice than ever in generating their own clean energy.”
